This guide is for residents who want to make their Apple (iPhone) or Android smartphone easier to navigate, with larger text, bigger icons, and a simpler layout. These steps improve visibility and reduce clutter.

For Apple iPhone

  • Enable Bold Text: Settings → Display & Brightness → turn on Bold Text.
  • Zoom: Settings → Accessibility → Zoom. Allows you to magnify the screen.
  • Display Zoom (larger icons & buttons): Settings → Display & Brightness → View → choose Zoomed.
  • Reduce Clutter: Move rarely used apps into folders or hide them (long-press app → Remove from Home Screen).
  • Enable Larger Accessibility Sizes: Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Larger Text → turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes and adjust slider.
  • Use Voice Control or Siri: Settings → Accessibility → Voice Control (or hold side button for Siri).
  • Increase Button Shapes & Contrast: Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → enable Button Shapes and Increase Contrast.

For Android Phones

  • Increase Font Size: Settings → Display → Font Size. Adjust slider for larger text.
  • Increase Display Size (larger icons & interface): Settings → Display → Display Size. Adjust slider.
  • Enable Magnification: Settings → Accessibility → Magnification. Triple-tap or use gesture to zoom.
  • Bold Text (if available): Settings → Accessibility → Text and Display → Bold Text.
  • High Contrast Mode: Settings → Accessibility → High Contrast Text.
  • Simplify Home Screen: Remove unused apps (long-press → Remove) or use ‘Easy Mode’ if your phone has it (found in Settings → Display).
  • Use Larger Keyboard: Install and enable a keyboard app with large keys (e.g., Gboard → Preferences → Keyboard Height).
  • Increase Touch & Hold Delay: Settings → Accessibility → Touch & Hold Delay (to avoid accidental taps).

General Tips

  • Adjust screen brightness for better visibility (Settings → Display → Brightness).
  • Keep the home screen simple – only most-used apps visible.
  • Use a case with a stand or grip for easier handling.
  • Enable screen timeout to be longer if you need more time to read (Settings → Display → Screen Timeout).
