๐Ÿก About the โš–๏ธStrong & Steady Programme

Helping you stay stronger, steadier and independent

Strong & Steady is a free community programme developed by Wraysbury & Horton Resilience to help residents improve their strength, balance and confidence through simple, practical exercises that can be carried out safely at home.

Whether you are looking to stay active, regain confidence after a fall, or simply reduce your risk of falling in the future, Strong & Steady helps you build a personalised exercise plan that can develop with you over time.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Built on recognised guidance

Strong & Steady has not been created from opinion or guesswork. It has been carefully developed using recognised UK and international guidance on falls prevention, healthy ageing, strength training and balance improvement.

The programme draws on evidence and recommendations from organisations including:

  • NHS England
  • National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)
  • Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • Royal Osteoporosis Society
  • Age UK
  • World Health Organization (WHO)

Where appropriate, recommendations have also been informed by current research into strength training, balance, functional movement and healthy ageing.

๐Ÿ“š What the evidence tells us

Research consistently shows that regular strength and balance exercises can:

โœ… Improve muscle strength

โœ… Improve balance and coordination

โœ… Reduce the risk of falls

โœ… Increase confidence when walking and moving around

โœ… Help people remain active and independent for longer

Perhaps most importantly, the greatest benefits come from exercises that become part of everyday life. Regular practice is far more effective than occasional intensive exercise.

๐ŸŒฑ A programme that grows with you

Everyone starts from a different place.

Rather than expecting everyone to do the same exercises, Strong & Steady allows you to choose exercises and begin at a level that feels comfortable and safe.

As your confidence and ability improve, you can gradually progress to more challenging versions of each exercise.

Your personal plan can be updated at any time.

๐Ÿก Designed for everyday life

The aim is not simply to complete a set of exercises.

The aim is to build habits that fit naturally into your daily routine.

Many of the exercises can be linked with everyday activities such as:

  • waiting for the kettle to boil
  • cleaning your teeth
  • preparing meals
  • television advert breaks
  • standing at the kitchen worktop

Small amounts of regular practice often produce better long-term results than occasional longer sessions.

๐Ÿค Community support

Strong & Steady has been developed by Wraysbury & Horton Resilience as part of our commitment to helping local residents remain healthier, safer and more independent.

If you would like encouragement, help using the programme, or support progressing your exercises, our volunteers are always happy to help.

๐Ÿ”’ Your privacy

Your personal exercise plan is created entirely on your own device.

Wraysbury & Horton Resilience does not collect, receive or store:

  • the exercises you select
  • your progression level
  • your notes
  • your personal exercise plan

You remain in complete control of your own information.

โš ๏ธ A note about safety

Strong & Steady is intended for most adults who wish to improve their strength and balance.

It is not a substitute for assessment or treatment by a physiotherapist, GP or other healthcare professional.

If an exercise causes significant pain, dizziness, chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or you are concerned about your health, stop exercising and seek appropriate medical advice.

If you have recently had surgery, experienced a recent fracture, or have a medical condition that affects safe exercise, speak to your healthcare professional before starting a new exercise programme.

๐Ÿค– How this programme was developed

Strong & Steady has been researched and developed by Wraysbury & Horton Resilience volunteers using recognised clinical guidance and current evidence.

Modern AI-assisted tools were used during development to help organise information, review evidence and improve accessibility. Every exercise, recommendation and item of guidance has been reviewed, verified and adapted to reflect current UK guidance before publication.

The programme continues to be reviewed and improved as new evidence and guidance become available.

โค๏ธ Our goal

Our ambition is simple.

To help more local residents stay active, confident and independent for as long as possible.

Every exercise completed today is an investment in your health tomorrow.
